When: 18 September 2020, 2-4pm
Where: Online Event
Bookings: Sold out

As part of the Community Relations Council Good Relations Week 2020, Smashing Times will present Creative Connections for a Brighter Future – using the arts and new digital technologies to promote positive community relations. The event features a screening of Stories from the Shadows, a 54-minute television documentary that charts the work of Smashing Times as we carried out The Memory Project, an arts-based peace building programme over the course of two years in Northern Ireland and border areas in the Republic of Ireland.

The documentary was directed by Mary Moynihan and Mark Quinn and explores the experiences of artists, facilitators and directors from Smashing Times who engaged with young people and adults to explore a legacy of the conflict through creative processes and ways forward for a peaceful future for all. Themes include empowerment, transformation and the telling of untold stories, through engaging, provocative and emotional theatre. The screening is followed by an online discussion on how we can use the art-based materials from the project in reconciliation work and in developing new education opportunities in peace-building and reconciliation work. The event is presented as an early-bird event as part of the Dublin Arts and Human Rights festival supported by the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Small Scale Local Festivals and Summer Schools Funding Scheme 2020. The Good Relations Week 2020 takes place from the 14-21 September on the theme Celebrating Our Journey: Embracing Our Future – 30 Years of Connecting Communities, implemented by the Community Relations Council.
