In 2011 Smashing Times Theatre and Film Company received a grant from the OLC Ireland Trust Fund managed by the Community Foundation for Ireland. This grant allowed Mary Moynihan and Sinéad O’Loughlin to research into the trafficking of women for prostitution in Ireland. The output of this project was the creation of a new piece of theatre writing about the experiences of the women involved.
- Contact was made with organisations working in the area of prostitution and trafficking to partner with the project and provide guidance and advice.
- Research was conducted into policy documents and available information on trafficking, prostitution and the sex industry in Ireland.
- Outreach work to make direct contact with women involved in prostitution and trafficking to interview them about their personal experiences in Ireland.
The OLC Ireland Trust Fund is managed by The Community Foundation for Ireland on behalf of The Sisters of Our Lady of Charity. The Fund endeavours to support projects that most closely fit the criteria of organisations’ working with women tackling addictions, prostitution, trafficking, violence and abuse. The goal of the fund is to provide resources which will help educate, develop and enhance the lives and dignity of marginalised women.
