European Language Label Awards Day – Ella Day

Smashing Times will present a theatre workshop at the European Language Label Awards Day (ELLA Day) on September 25, 2018, 10am-3.30pm, at Croke Park, Dublin. Richard Bruton, Minister for Education and Skills will present the opening address at the Awards Ceremony. Smashing Times extend our congratulations to the organisers and all the award winners.

Workshop 3: Non-verbal communication – a creative approach to working without common languages in international settings. 12am-1.30pm. Croke Park, Dublin. Presented by Freda Manweiler and Chrissie Poulter, Smashing Times International Centre for the Arts and Human Rights incorporating Smashing Times Theatre and Film Company and Smashing Times Youth Arts Ensemble.

Cultural Heritage: The Challenges of Diversity
27 September, 10am-2.30pm
Dromantine Retreat and Conference Centre, Newry, County Down
Presented by: A collaboration between EPALE UK, EPALE Ireland and Aontas marking the European Year of Cultural Heritage.
According to Aontas: ‘Celebrating cultural heritage can be far from straightforward in today’s society. The island of Ireland has undergone huge cultural shifts in the past few decades, including the influx of a great diversity of cultures, which brings many opportunities as well as challenges. This event brings together thinkers and practitioners from across the island to share their experiences of working with people and communities to celebrate cultural diversity and to offer learnings and good practice across Europe on themes of cultural heritage and adult learning. Guest speakers and organisations presenting include The Irish Heritage Council, Northern Ireland Community Relations Council and Heritage Lottery Fund, the Ulster Museum, Smashing Times Theatre and Film Company and the Inter-Ethnic Forum (East & Mid Antrim).’
Mary Moynihan, who will speak at ‘Cultural Heritage: The Challenges of Diversity’
As part of the event, Mary Moynihan, Director, Smashing Times International Centre for the Arts and Human Rights, will give a minute’s talk on the work of Smashing Times and The Memory Project with reference to the documentary Stories from the Shadows. Smashing Times will then screen sections from the full-length television documentary Stories from the Shadows, that charts the work of Smashing Times as they carry out The Memory Project over the course of two years in Northern Ireland and border areas in the Republic of Ireland. The screening is followed by a post-screening talk with Mary Moynihan, Director, Freda Manweiler, Producer and Olivia O’Hagan from Portadown, who is interviewed in the documentary. The company will also demonstrate some of the practical games and exercises used in The Memory Project.
