Acting for Change │ Youth Theatre Symposium

Smashing Times Theatre Company is funded by the PEACE III Programme, through the County Louth Peace and Reconciliation Partnership to deliver a theatre programme for secondary school students and youth groups. During October, Smashing Times Theatre Company drama facilitator Fiona Bawn Thompson, good relations facilitator Deirdre Blakely and actor Adam Traynor have worked with over 300 students across Louth as part of an in-school programme. Schools taking part included St Joseph’s CBS, Ardee Community School, St Vincent’s Secondary School, St Mary’s College, Drogheda Grammar School, St Louis Secondary School, Scoil Ui Mhuiri and O’Fiaich College.

In addition to this, a youth theatre symposium for young people (15+) takes place on November 16th from 2pm to 9pm in the Barbican Centre and Droichead Arts Centre, Drogheda, and includes a participative drama workshop, supper and an evening performance.

The day begins with an afternoon workshop at 2pm in the Barbican Centre, facilitated by experienced theatre practitioner Fiona Bawn-Thompson, and good-relations facilitator Deirdre Blakely.

Following the workshop, participants will have supper in the Droichead Arts Centre before an evening performance of Thou Shalt Not Kill. The performance and post-show discussion will finish at 9pm. This performance is also open to the wider public, and will be free to attend.

The theatre performance of Thou Shalt Not Kill consists of three dramatic monologues performed by Smashing Times Theatre Company’s professional actors and is followed by a facilitated post-performance discussion with the performers, artists and invited guests.

The Acting for Change Youth Theatre Symposium is a free event, but booking is essential. Groups are very welcome. Booking is through Smashing Times Theatre Company or online through Eventbrite.
