Membership

The Smashing Times International Network for the Arts, Human Rights and Gender Equality is made up of members who wish to advocate for the development of the arts to promote human rights and gender equality, and establish stronger links between artistic, cultural, political and human rights related organisations. Currently there are two membership levels.

  1. Individual Membership (level one) for individuals only, no cost. Benefits are:
    • Notification on upcoming events and training
    • Access to free quarterly newsletter
    • Entry in the Smashing Time directory (optional)
    • At discretion of editor, opportunity to contribute to the newsletter and policy submissions
    • Opportunity to attend meetings and a yearly networking event (Members can also join without being active.)
  1. Network Membership (level two) for individuals and organisations who wish to take more concerted action to advocate for policy change and support for using artistic processes to promote key issues around the world in relation to gender quality and human rights. Organisations will prepare joint projects, joint funding applications, joint policy campaigns and will meet up a minimum of once per year in real time bringing together arts and human rights practitioners and others interested in the topics. Events take the form of panel discussion meetings, creative symposiums, artistic performances and exhibitions. Benefits are:
    • Notifications on upcoming events and training
    • Access to free quarterly newsletter
    • Entry in the Smashing Times Directory, optional. For organisations the name of the organisation and website is listed, for individuals the name only and a website is listed
    • At discretion of editor, opportunity to contribute to the newsletter and policy submissions
    • Opportunity to attend meetings and a yearly networking event

    • Access to e-learning courses – see below
    • Access to online networking and discussion forum – see below

Arts Podcasts: Monthly artistic, cultural and social podcasts by well-known artists and cultural players that tackle the issue of the arts and human rights from a vast array of different perspectives, developing connections between cultural, political, digital and artistic sectors of society.

Education and Training: Information on workshops, masterclasses, accredited and online training, including access to an introductory e-learning Training Module in the Arts, Gender Equality and Human Rights. The online centre opens with one training course (available to members who have paid a registration fee) and the aim is to develop other training programmes including a blended learning European wide MA linked to academic institutions across Europe.

E-learning Module in the Arts, Gender Equality and Human Rights: This provides information on issues such as gender equality, discrimination, peace-building, mental health, anti-racism, diversity, anti-sectarianism, remembrance and more, as well as the role of the arts in tackling such issues. The training course comprises five different sections of information, each of which is made up of five brief information slides. In order to progress from one section to the next, the user must pass an online test on the information just read.

Online Networking and Discussion Forum: This is set up as part of a digital networking service to enable productive dialogue and discussion on the power of the arts in addressing human rights issues. Members are invited to connect and comment in the online discussion forum. The online discussion forum will include new topics chosen by the Smashing Times team each month fort the registered members to discuss. All registered members will be gently reminded that productive, cooperative and tolerant discussion is encouraged, and that in the case of insulting or abusive comments, the registered member will be immediately removed from the forum and have their membership revoked.
