Full Event Details

Queen Dragon lands you somewhere between performance and ceremony space. She will create a journey and cast a spell with every song, different flavours of spells through the night, as though you were in the theatre, the witching camp, the cave. The rave. Very gentle and very strong, drink from her cup, fierce and delicate, simmering. Another way of feeling, another way of being – tapped in, witnessed, personal, psychedelic. Wild.

I write gig theatre which broadly promotes the idea that all people have the highest possible level of autonomy. Human rights are a theme in my work. I have pieces that speak of precarity, migration, the nature of heroism, consciousness, revolution, and love. I have a tremendous aim for transformational care, and it is embedded in my music. I have a vision for rescripting society within a feminist aesthetic – with kindness and power, where quality of care becomes the new metric by which we measure ourselves as a species. My show embodies and articulates a vision of matriotism, of devotion to the motherland, and to the wellness of all.

Speaker Biographies:

Deirdre Murphy is Queen Dragon, creator of gig theatre, creator of Capitalism: The Musical. Her work focuses an intensity of love, of transformative change, of the deep imagining through which all new ideas are manifested into life. Her vocally driven performances explore multiple soundscapes, with complex lyrics, rap, spoken word, and physical theatre integrating seamlessly to create a unique and electric individual style.

Raised in Alaska, Deirdre has been making work for theatre, dance, and music in Ireland for a number of years now. She released her first album Matriotism in 2024. Her seminal work of circus theatre, Capitalism: The Musical, performed to great success at the Electric Picnic 2025 and on Culture Night. She is currently in residency in Axis Ballymun as part of the Assemble program, through which she is starting to record her extensive library of unreleased music and enjoying mentorship. She is delighted to be part of the Smashing Times Arts and Human Rights Festival.
