The Eyes of the Storm is a photographic exhibition by Trócaire, celebrating the courage and determination of people on the frontlines of the climate crisis across the world. As well as sharing their powerful stories, this exhibition also urges people on the island of Ireland to join the climate movement and stand together in solidarity with those most affected. We need governments and corporations to act, and we need them to act fast. This exhibition is part of Trócaire’s Climate Justice Campaign which is calling for a fast, fair and funded phase out of fossil fuels.
Through powerful personal testimony, photography and audio, the exhibition highlights the human rights impacts of the climate crisis on the people on the frontlines across the world, who have done least to cause the crisis. It highlights how the climate crisis is a human rights crisis, and one of inequality and injustice.
Trócaire is campaigning for a global phase-out of fossil fuels and this exhibition is intended to mobilise people to pressure our government to act. This phase out needs to be fair – richer countries must act first. It needs to be funded – countries most affected need financial support. And it needs to be fast – we need urgent action.
Please stand together with the people in the eye of the storm and join our campaign.
People on the frontlines of climate breakdown
Right now, in the countries that Trócaire works in, women and men are on the frontlines of the climate crisis. Homes are being washed away by flooding in Rwanda. Drought and famine are putting millions at risk of starvation in East Africa. Devastating cyclones have destroyed peoples’ lives in Malawi.
Climate breakdown is a crisis of inequality and injustice. Richer countries have benefitted immensely from exploitation
and industrialisation, yet those who have done the least to cause this crisis are experiencing the worst impacts.
Yet, despite being in the eye of the storm, many of the people on the frontlines are standing up, organising their
communities, and campaigning for climate justice. Will we listen to their call and act with the speed and urgency needed
to address this global crisis?
