Interview with Barry Ward

This episode of the Smashing Times Arts and Human Rights Radio Show features an in-depth interview with Barry Ward TD, an Irish Fine Gael politician who has served as Teachta Dála (TD) for Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown since 2024 and has a long record of defending human rights.

Barry was elected to Dáil Éireann in November 2024, having previously served as a Senator and Seanad spokesperson on Justice. A practising barrister from Deansgrange, he has represented the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown area since 2009, as both a councillor and TD, working on issues including human rights, transport, climate action, coastal protection, local services and criminal justice reform. A sailor and advocate for water safety, Barry is a strong supporter of the Irish Coast Guard and RNLI and continues to champion local and international issues. He serves on Oireachtas committees including Justice and An Ghaeilge, speaks Irish and French, and hosts the Irish Legislation Podcast.

Also on the show are reflections by Mary Moynihan on Viktor E. Frankl’s book Man’s Search for Meaning; a call for peace and non-violence around the world with an end to the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza, the war in Ukraine, and wars in Sudan, Iran and elsewhere; and a reading of Mary’s poem Sun to My Moon.

Mary Moynihan, MA, she/her, is an author of novels, poetry, films and plays, from Dublin, Ireland. Mary embarked upon her award-winning career as a writer in theatre and film and has garnered much acclaim for her plays, poetry and short film scripts, and for creating interdisciplinary artworks combining writing, poetry and photography presented in galleries and online. She established and became Artistic Director of Smashing Times International Centre for the Arts and Equality and is Artistic Curator for the annual international Arts and Human Rights festival.
