‘Imagine this: a nation that is set up with individual families that are thriving, that are healthy, that communicate, that raise their children in love, have a better rate of becoming better human beings and that’s what we need to create… Black lives have always mattered. We have always been important. We have always meant something. We have always succeeded regardless. And now is the time. I ain’t waiting.’

Details
Unsilencing Black Voices is a project created to highlight different forms of racism through the lived experience of the black community in Ireland. The aim to encourage everyone to continuously partake in the ongoing discussions of race.
We hope that this platform will be an educational and social adventure that shines a light to the black voices in Ireland that had been previously silenced as their experiences had been brushed aside. It is now our time to reclaim back our voices in a safe space that acknowledges and welcomes our diverse lived experiences.
Catherine Osikoya is a first generation immigrant originally from Nigeria. She is currently, a fifth-year student studying Architecture at the University of Limerick.
Sandrine Uwase Ndahiro is originally from Rwanda and moved to Ireland in 2006. Currently, I am a first- year PhD student in Contemporary African Literature at the University of Limerick. Working on this project has provided me the opportunity to incorporate my research interests and cultural background to highlight black lived experiences in Ireland.
Kwasi Boyce is the Founder, Director and Drama Facilitator of M.A.D. Youth Theatre, Dundalk, Co Louth.
