Full Event Details

My So-Called Life in Copenhagen is an autobiographical artistic performance that combines elements of comedy, physical theatre, and exhibition. Through the personal story of its creator, Renate Dujaković, the performance explores themes of migration, identity, cultural adaptation, and belonging, from the perspective of a young artist from Southeast Europe trying to find her place in Copenhagen — a city that promises freedom, yet where quiet exclusion simmers beneath the surface.

The performance uses humour as a means of illuminating the invisible everyday challenges faced by migrant women — bureaucratic traps, cultural misunderstandings, existential tensions, and emotional exhaustion. Combining personal storytelling, political sharpness, and physical performance inspired by clown, bouffon, and mask work, the performance creates an intimate and humorous theatrical experience that allows the audience to empathise, laugh, and question their own role within the systems that shape social reality.

Through creative artistic approaches, the performance addresses complex and often taboo subjects in a way that is simultaneously gentle, humorous, and politically precise — positioning the theatrical act as a space for truth, subversion, and resistance.

Following the performance, the audience is invited to explore an accompanying photography exhibition — a visual extension of the performance that transforms the entire event into a multimedia and immersive experience. The exhibition is not merely an addition, but a space for extended reflection, where intimate portraits and poetic interventions offer silence and time for a personal connection with the themes of the performance.

My So-Called Life in Copenhagen is a work that crosses boundaries in both form and content. It is politically engaged and deeply rooted in personal experience. It invites the audience to think critically, laugh from the gut, and recognise the power of performance as a means of resistance, resilience, and the collective reimagining of reality.
