Leading human rights organisations once again come together to celebrate the voices and actions of human rights defenders from Ireland and around the world. Saturday 28 September from 12 to 6pm is a day packed with panel discussion sessions, interactive workshops, and film screenings. The day features three panel discussions and three interactive workshops with the panel discussions and workshops running parallel.

The day features three interactive creative-based workshops – an interactive songwriting workshop, an up-cycling fashion workshop and a theatre for equality workshop. For details and bookings for the three workshops please see below.

Workshop One: Songwriting Workshop

Workshop Description

Songs and music have played a powerful role in human rights movement around the world, giving a universal voice, crossing barriers and promoting unity and equality. Participants are welcome to attend this Songwriting Workshop hosted by Fighting Words where you will be invited to look at the history of these songs, and to draw on human rights themes to create our own songs relevant for today’s generation. While no previous songwriting experience is required participants are free to bring along any instruments or lyrical ideas you might have! This workshop is suitable for young people ages 13 to 17.

Workshop Description

Join Geraldine and Taz for a special up-cycling workshop where they’ll teach you to paint, embroider and generally add some va-va-voom to your favourite denim jacket/ jeans/ dungarees (generally anything denim). Come along and learn all you need to know in apparel artistry, where the emphasis is on up-skilling instead of land-filling.We’ll provide the paints, threads and sparkles necessary to make your garb look gorgeous and glam – all you need to do is let those creative juices flow! Open to all age groups.

Workshop Description

Smashing times will host an introductory fun-based workshop using creative processes of theatre games and exercises to introduce young people and adults to themes of equality and diversity. The workshop requires active participation in games and exercises – wear practical clothes and flat shoes if you can – and provides participants with a fun introduction to a quality arts experience. Participants have the opportunity to explore key issues through a creative process and to work together towards a better future for all.
